Robert O. Cone obtained his bachelor's degree with highest honors from Southwest Texas State University. He attended the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio for Medical School, where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha National Honor Medical Society. Following his internship, he served as Chief Resident in Diagnostic Radiology at the University of Texas, Bexar County Teaching Hospital, also in San Antonio. He subsequently completed a fellowship in musculoskeletal radiology under the direction of Dr. Donald Resnick at the University of California at San Diego.

Previously, Dr. Cone was Assistant Professor for the Department of Radiology at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, where he directed the Radiology Residency Program. He then entered private practice in San Antonio and quickly established an enthusiastic following among orthopaedic surgeons in the area. Valued for his fund of knowledge and broad experience in musculoskeletal radiology, Dr. Cone has been a long-standing consultant for the San Antonio Spurs of the NBA. Dr Cone has authored or coauthored 30 peer-reviewed journal articles and nine book chapters, and has given over 30 invited lectures at national academic meetings.

Dr. Cone is married and lives in the San Antonio area.
