Robert Craig Platenberg obtained his undergraduate degree in Life Sciences at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado. While at the Academy, he was captain of the varsity fencing team and was named its most valuable fencer. Dr. Platenberg attended Medical School at Georgetown University, and prior to his radiology residency at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center, served as an Air Force primary care physician for two years. During this time, he was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal for his achievements. After completing his radiology residency, Dr. Platenberg performed a fellowship in Neuroradiology at the Tufts New England Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts.

Dr. Platenberg has over eighteen years of clinical experience in diagnostic radiology, the majority of which he has spent performing MRI. He served as Chief of Neuroradiology at Wilford Hall for four years, where he was awarded a Meritorious Service Medal. He was an attending in Neuroradiology at Georgetown University School of Medicine for four years, serving as Director of MRI, and has continued to serve on the Clinical Staff at the Georgetown University Hospital. Dr. Platenberg was also Executive Vice President of Medical Operations for Med Tel International, a developer of outpatient MRI centers, during which time he gained invaluable clinical and operational experience in MRI.

Dr. Platenberg is a highly regarded clinician and educator, having provided over eighty invited lectures at national and international meetings. He has written three book chapters and has produced numerous peer-reviewed publications and scientific exhibits. He is a diplomat of the American Board of Radiology and a Senior Member of the American Society of Neuroradiology.
